LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) -- An area police department plans to put more officers on the streets to keep an eye on drivers this weekend.

On Friday, the La Crosse Police Department said on its website that the extra officers are working Friday and Saturday. It's because of a "High Visibility OWI Grant." The added police will be trying to improve safety on the roads and curb traffic-related injuries.

Other Wisconsin agencies are taking a similar measure. Last fall, the Department of Transportation awarded the La Crosse department a grant to combat drunk driving.
