Americans fed up with Gov't shutdown

(WEAU)--While the budget battle continues in Congress, Americans are growing more impatient. The latest NBC poll says that 6 in 10 would fire every member of Congress if they could.

"I'm really not surprised. The fact that Obama has the highest approval rating of any politician or political party (in Washington) tells the story in terms of people’s desire to get this taken care of,” Eau Claire County Democratic Party Spokesperson Beverly Wickstrom said.

The NBC poll shows that both the Democratic and Republican parties’ approval ratings have dropped in the last 11 days. It also shows that 53 percent of Americans blame republicans for the shutdown.

But Eau Claire County Republican Party Spokesperson Mike Conlin says a solution to the divide in Washington isn't simple.

“It looks like the differences are so diametrically opposed that it’s difficult to find a compromise,” Conlin said.

The one thing both sides do agree on is the effect the shutdown is having on many Americans. Andy Bourget, who works for the USDA, has been furloughed since the shutdown began

"We still don't know if there is any end to this," Bourget said.

Bourget says it's that uncertainty that's leaving people anxious.

"It’s not just about us going back to work and getting a paycheck we are holding up a lot of money for the economy,” said Bourget.
