NEW INFORMATION: All "Christmas for Kids" tags picked up from Trempealeau Co. Sheriff's Office

WHITEHALL, Wis. (WEAU) -- It appears more than 200 children in need will receive holiday gifts through an effort by a local sheriff's department.

A post on the Trempealeau County Sheriff's Office Facebook page said that all 212 tags from its "Christmas for Kids" tree had been picked up. The tags are picked up by people who will donate an unwrapped gift to the sheriff's office. The gifts will end up with more than 80 families who wouldn't otherwise be able to provide their kids with holiday gifts.

The deadline to return the donated gifts to the sheriff's office is November 27. Families will come to the sheriff's office to get the gifts on December 12.
