WAUPUN, Wis. (AP) -- Waupun police have arrested a man in a string of at least 10 bomb threats that have forced local establishments to evacuate and left local residents skittish about going downtown.

Deputy Chief Scott Louden says a 31-year-old Markesan man was taken into custody Wednesday evening and is being held on accusations he violated the sex offender registry rules by officiating some sporting events in which minors were involved. WLUK-TV reports officials say the man, during questioning, admitted involvement in making the bomb threats.

Louden says even though no bombs have ever been found, authorities had to respond in full force. The threats were phoned into businesses, a public library and hospital in three communities in recent days.
