NEW INFORMATION: Cause of March 5 house fire in Chippewa Falls undetermined

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) -- An fire earlier this month has been ruled an accident, and the cause is undetermined.

On Thursday, The Chippewa Falls Fire Department and Chippewa Falls Police Department announced that their investigation into the March 5 fire at a house on Island Street is finished. The fire started in the living room of the upstairs apartment. Investigators say they couldn't rule out multiple potential causes for the fire.

An on-duty Chippewa Falls Police officer noticed flames coming from the second story of the house on Spring and Island Streets after the fire started early in the morning. The house had three apartment units. No people were hurt, but a dog died in the fire. It caused $30,000 in smoke and fire damage. The fire later re-kindled.
