SPARTA, Wis. (WEAU) -- A prosecutor has cleared the police sergeant who shot and killed a man last fall.
On Friday, Monroe County District Attorney Kevin Croninger announced that Sergeant Booker Ferguson acted appropriately on October 4, 2013. He responded to a disturbance call on the 1000 block of Fairway Drive. Officers say John Bartholomew, 21, was holding two knives and confronted Ferguson. When he didn't put down the knives and kept coming forward, Ferguson shot him. Bartholomew later died.
Croninger said that Ferguson "demonstrated an example of the high character of law enforcement officers by rendering first aid, to an individual who just minutes earlier had put both the safety of himself and other members of the public in danger.”
