NEW INFORMATION: Final Thorp water main break repaired; boil advisory continues

By  |

THORP, Wis. (CITY OF THORP NEWS RELEASE) -- This afternoon, crews were able to locate and repair the final active water main break in Thorp. Once the repairs were complete, water levels in the water tower stabilized and the system of wells was able to fall into a normal pumping protocol. Beginning yesterday, additional chlorine has been fed into the water system for sanitation purposes. The required level was reached that allowed us to take the first water samples to the lab today for testing. The second round of samples will go to the lab tomorrow—Friday February 28th. Assuming both samples come back clean, the final step will be acquiring DNR approval to lift the boil water order. That theoretically could occur sometime during the weekend, but also may not occur until early next week.

In the meantime, resident(s) should still use bottled water or boil water for consumption, cooking, etc. There is still an ample supply of bottled water available at City Hall for distribution. Residents are also still asked to use municipal water conservatively—the wells had a tough 4 days and it would be ideal to give them some time to rest.
