BARRON, Wis. (WEAU) -- A jury has convicted the driver of a homicide charge in a 2012 crash that killed a teenager.

Court records show that Wade Richey, 23, of Spooner was found guilty of Homicide by Vehicle With the Use of a Controlled Substance, and Reckless Driving-Causing Great Bodily Harm on Thursday. It was the third day of the trial in Barron County court.

The crash happened north of Cumberland in July 2012. The Barron County Sheriff's Department said a truck Richey was driving didn't stop at a stop sign, went in a ditch, and then hit an embankment. Triston Sager, 15, of Birchwood was in the box area of the truck. He went to the hospital, where he later died. Deputies said Richey initially told them that the truck malfunctioned.

Richey pleaded not guilty to both charges in August 2012. Sentencing is scheduled for April 30.
