BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) -- Investigators say a man jailed in the death of his father admitted shooting him several times, burning the father's body, and burying the remains.

On September 25, deputies arrested Lars Helgeson, 20, of Hixton. WEAU 13 News obtained a probable cause statement that shows that Helgeson told investigators he waited outside and then shot Brian Helgeson, 57, of Hixton four times with a .22 pistol as he left the house on either September 16 or September 17. He went on to say that he used a tractor and chain to drag his father, covered him with a blanket, and set it on fire. He said that he put the remains in the end loader bucket of the tractor, dug a hole with a shovel, and put the remains in it. Helgeson also admitted to stealing an SUV that he drove around the area.

When investigators searched the home where Helgeson and his father lived, they found several weapons that were "placed in strategic places around the residence such as behind doors." Another man told deputies Helgeson had admitted shooting and killing his father, and burying the body on the property.

Helgeson is jailed on suspicion of First Degree Murder. Criminal charges have not been filed in the case.
