NEW INFORMATION: Organizers hope to open Jeffers Park by spring 2015

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Organizers of a project to build a new park on Eau Claire's northwest side are now hoping to have it ready by next spring.

On Tuesday, the Eau Claire Community Foundation announced that the Chippewa Valley Homebuilders Association will volunteer the contractor labor to build a pavilion and restroom building for Jeffers Park. The park would have a five-field baseball and softball complex. The foundation has said it would be the first joint boy and girl fields in Eau Claire. It would also include a playground, pavilion, and trails. The city owns the land, which is on Jeffers Road, north of the North Crossing. It is working with the Eau Claire National Little League and Eau Claire Fastpitch to build the park with the help of donations.

Organizers say they're talking with other key contractors. They expect to make announcements about in-kind contributions to the effort soon. They also plan to release a construction schedule at an upcoming Parks and Recreation Department meeting.
