FALL CREEK, Wis. (WEAU) -- It could be two weeks before the cause of a fire in a former church building is determined.
Chief Robert Dewitz of the Fall Creek Area Fire District said Friday that the Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating the fire at the former Saint John the Apostle Church on State Street in Fall Creek. The fire happened on August 22. The building was being used as housing at the time. Crews found flames shooting out of the walls on two sides of the buildings when they arrived at the scene. As crews worked on fighting the fire, Dewitz said that the flames had scorched about 50 percent of the interior of the building, and that he was not aware of any suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire.
A firefighter ended up with heat exhaustion. Nobody else was hurt.
