CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) - Investigators say a post on Facebook led them to a suspect in a vandalism case.
Chippewa County Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk says something on Facebook gave them the information they needed to interview a juvenile suspect. Kowalczyk was not sure of his age, or exactly what was posted on Facebook that led deputies to him. The sheriff says the suspect admitted to being involved in the crime, which was reported August 8. That's when family of Martin Grorud found a memorial bench that had been dedicated to him had been destroyed. The memorial was at Ray's Beach off County Road X in the Town of Lafayette.
In June 2002, Grorud’s body was found at Lake Wissota after he fell out of a boat. He was a passenger on the boat near the island on the southern end of the lake when investigators say he fell from the bow as the operator let off the throttle. Investigators say the boat then ran over Grorud.
Kowalczyk says the suspect will be referred to juvenile court.
