EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - Officers investigating the Vine Street Murder now say they do not believe robbery was a motive in the death of Paul Oberle.
Eau Claire Police say some evidence that officers found at the scene was sent to the state crime lab late last week. Officers say there isn’t an exact timetable on when they’ll get test results from the crime lab. Police say if those results give them certain information they’re looking for in the case, they will make an arrest at some point.
Oberle, 39, was found dead in his yard on June 9. Police are detaining an unidentified person of interest. They say there's no danger to the public.
Officers say they had previous contact with Oberle twice before. They classify one of those contacts as a welfare check on a person, but did not elaborate.
