EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Building self-esteem and confidence, that's the message behind the 10th annual Girls on the Run 5K.
The run took place this morning at Owen Park in Eau Claire.
Nearly 900 people participated in Saturday’s event.
Each girl had a buddy who ran along with them.
The goal of the Girls on the Run program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment in girls 3rd through 5th grade while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.
"It's all about running, moving and getting girls active but a curriculum behind that is building self-esteem and plugging in the positive card,” said Kim Gillett, Girls on the Run council director.
Eighteen schools from around western Wisconsin took part in this year's event.
Most of the money raised goes right back into the local program.
