New Eau Claire City Manager starts job

(WEAU) - Monday was the first day for Eau Claire’s newest city manager.

Russell Van Gompel came to the area from Brown Deer, a suburb of Milwaukee, where he served as the Village Manager for the past 14 years. His contract here runs through December 31st of 2015.

Van Gompel says he's excited for the job. "I'm looking forward to taking on some of those challenges and together I think we can provide some great municipal services in a cost effective manner,” Van Gompel said.

He says his biggest challenge right now is meeting all the people he'll be working with going forward.
