New UW-Eau Claire chancellor starts new position Monday

(WEAU) - It was the first day on the job for the new chancellor at UW-Eau Claire.

Dr. Jim Schmidt was on campus Monday, settling into his new office and meeting some new faces. He comes from Winona State, where he worked for nearly 15 years, most recently as the vice president for university advancement.

We talked to Schmidt Monday and he told us about the role he hopes to play at the university in the upcoming years. "It was very clear that Eau Claire is one of the pearls in the UW-System and didn't need someone to come in and change everything. Certainly there's always room for improvement. I think my job is to help the campus and look for opportunities, look for what the future of Eau Claire will look like."

Schmidt says he plans on spending the summer getting to know the area and meeting all the faculty and staff.
