MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The incoming president of the University of Wisconsin System is pledging to improve transparency of the System's finances and collaborate more closely with state lawmakers.
Ray Cross was selected Thursday to lead the UW System. He met reporters Friday at UW-Milwaukee, where he said he's excited about starting his new position next month. He's been chancellor of UW-Extension and UW Colleges since 2011.
He succeeds Kevin Reilly, who stepped down last month. Reilly came under fire from lawmakers after word broke that the System was amassing large cash reserves even while raising tuition year after year.
Cross says he plans to work closely with legislators so they're aware of what's going on with the System. He also plans to make it easier to understand the System's often-complicated finances.
