RICE LAKE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Two homeless shelters in western Wisconsin have received donations of all new Sealy Tempur-pedic mattresses.
Slumberland in Rice Lake and Sealy donated the mattresses to Benjamin's House Emergency Shelter on Monday. It's the largest donation Slumberland has made in northern Wisconsin. When Slumberland Rice Lake tried to collect donations for the recent Packers Tailgate Tour live auction, he was told that his request was too small. That's when the company worked to get enough mattresses to supply three shelters, including Benjamin's House.
On Tuesday, Grace Place Shelter received 80 of the mattresses. It's in the process of moving from Somerset to New Richmond, which will help it accommodate up to 64 people. That's more than twice as many people as the current location can accommodate. The new shelter is expected to start operation in the fall.
