HUDSON, Wis. (WEAU) -- "We shoot together every now and then, quite a bit maybe once or twice a month," said Casey Flanigan, who was out with his girlfriend, Katie Deborg, at a shooting range in Hudson.
The two are not spending Valentine's Day the traditional way. They have been dating a year and wanted to try something different.
"I don't think we told too many people about this," Flannigan said.
Forget sharing appetizers across the table.
"Your mom asked if you're going to feed me too," Deborg joked.
On Thursday night, it was ammo and amore -- a two for one couple's night at a gun range in Hudson.
"We're the untraditional date night," said John Monson with Bill's Gun and Shooting Range.
He says the idea is to give couples an alternative on Valentine's Day. Two people can shoot for $20. If you need to rent guns and buy ammo, it is about $50.
Last year he said they focused on singles. This year, it is about bringing guys and girls together.
"This is like a guy's best dream to have his Valentine's Day present to go to the range with his girlfriend or his wife," he added.
The idea of a couple's night at the gun range raises questions as gun control remains a contentious issue across the nation. But even so, Monson says the idea is about personal choice and being in a controlled environment.
"Not a single bullet escapes this facility," Monson added. "They all go into the pile and it's completely safe, if you tried it I guarantee you would love it."
You may be thinking by now a night like this sounds like a guy's dream date. But Rachel Lee was the one who brought her husband out tonight.
"We thought why not, it's buy one get one free today," Rachel Lee said.
And on a holiday when tradition usually triumphs, both say they wanted to challenge the status quo.
"I thought it would be cool to do something different than just go out to eat or go to a movie, and I wanted to try it," Lee added.
