Eau Claire, WI (WEAU) - A famous writer once wrote, "Stories are light. Light is precious in a world so dark." Thanks to those inspiring words, one local girl is taking readers on an adventure in fantasy with her own story.
"I've always really liked writing,” explains Emily Rawn, a 7th grader at Delong Middle School.
This 13-year-old spends most of her time living in a fantasy world reading some of the greats like JK Rowling & Cassandra Claire.
Rawn says, "You look around you and see everyday life, but only when you read or when you watch movies can you see dragons and powers and stuff."
This 7th grader, known as Emily Page to her readers can now call herself a writer. She's already busy signing autographs and selling copies of her first book called 'The Spirit Realm.'
"It's about these twin sisters named Alicia and Amira who go into this other world called the spirit realm where souls have been kidnapped from their bodies after death,” she says.
It's something that her dad, never thought would come to this.
"There's never been really anything to stop Emily. Once she sets her mind to something, she's gonna do it. I'm really proud of her though that she stuck to this,” says Patrick Rawn, her dad.
To Emily the fact that she's inspiring other young writers feels like fantasy too.
She says, "For me, it's still just a project that it was a story I worked on in my bedroom in my pajamas. It doesn't feel as big as people are like oh my gosh that's so amazing. But I just feel lucky; I don't feel like it’s something huge.
"Eventually she's going to you know pay for my bills and we'll move in for her, that's the long term goal,” says Patrick.
After weeks of searching for a publisher, her dreams' became reality.
"I really like to read and I get emotionally attached to books so I wanted to see if someone else would react that way to my books because then I know I'm not the only one who does that,” explains Emily.
According to Amazon.com, the book is a hit! I looked up several reviews of Emily's book and one said they were “left wanting more,” while another is “hoping there's another book or a whole series.”
Well good news for those reviewers, because "The Spirit Realm," is just the first of a trilogy.
She says, "I like to just send the message out that it's possible because I didn't even know if I could. Anybody out there that wants to get published just remember that other people are there to help you.”
