Eau Claire, WI (WEAU) - If you think going to the gym is a chore, we're hoping to change your mind this morning.
All month long, Sunrise is doing a series called Workout Wednesdays to help get you moving
and we're starting with cardio you can do at home without equipment, even in a park.
"Cardio is so important because it strengthens your heart and strengthens your lungs,”
So before we warm up get started, did you know the average person should be at least walking 15-30 minutes a day?
Jeff Rogers with RogCity Fitness says the key is to just start moving! So let’s warmup! Then move into some cardio you can do without equipment.
"You can do squats like this, or jumping jacks or side steps like this, so it's less impact on your joints or you can do a burpee with 3 pushups and a star jump. Come up and come together. We're going to breathe out and work those side abs. Shake it out, we're gonna bring those knees straight up toward your chest. Work that opposite hand you’re going to come across and touch that knee. Point those toes straight up to the sky."
If you got all that try these one you can do right in your home...
Jeff says, "Mountain climbers on the ground. Get in the plank position and bring those knees up nice and high. Stay light on those feet. Feel it in your stomach, feel it in your hips."
Remember that these exercises can help your core.
Ann Seidl and Kim Larsen say, "I feel it really strengthens your lower back and as you get older that is something that is very important to me. Kim, there's a lot of core. And I just love burpee's."
“If you can find time to incorporate some form of exercise into your life, you'd be so much better off,” explain Jeff.
Courtney: "Welcome Back everyone, you're watching Sunrise right now and earlier we did a couple of workouts in cardio just to kind of demonstrate how you can workout your body. because all month long we're going to be a series called Workout Wednesdays.
But now we're going to do a full body workout and joining me this morning is Jeff Rogers of Rogcity Fitness. Good morning to you!
Jeff: "Good morning to you."
Courtney: "So Jeff tell us a little bit about your mission."
Jeff: " My mission is to always promote a healthier lifestyle for everybody with small continual improvements and to make it simple. So anybody can do it at anytime at anywhere. That fitness levels and body types can join in my classes."
Courtney: So tell us, you have a couple of moves you want to demonstrate for us, so let's do those right now. So what's this first one you got?"
Jeff: "So we're going to start with a side lunge, a lateral raise for your shoulder. So we're going to start here, square those hips. You're going to step out with your right leg. You're going to take your left arm and bring it straight up. So same thing, you're going to start here, step out with that right leg, open up that leg bring that left arm straight up so you work those shoulders. You work that inner thigh. You work those quads and your glutes and when you come back in you push off your heel, nice deep breathing. Always focus on your form step out. You can do like 12 or 15 of these. Shake it out, come back to center and switch sides. So step out same thing."
Courtney: "So you can do these at work..at home?"
Jeff: "You can do these at home or at work. You can do them in a hotel. Just the idea that you're moving and you're staying active and you're always moving forward."
Courtney: "Gotcha, what else do you got for us?"
Jeff: "So shake it out. Take a nice deep breath. You can open up your legs nice and wide, so we're going to do a squat and keep working that upper body with your legs so squat down. You're going to come up and out. So nice wide stance with those legs. Stick your butt out, less impact on your knees. Your knees don't go past your toes, so stay back. Keep your back nice and straight and work those arms as you come up. Nice deep exhales. Inhale as you go down. Really feel it in those shoulders. Open up those hips, work those legs.
Courtney: "Oh I'm feeling it."
Jeff: "Shake it out. Squat down, come up and out. You're working your core. You're working your hips, you're working your shoulders that full body movement."
Courtney: "What's the last one you got."
Jeff: "Shake it out. Always stay loose. Take your left arm, we're going to step back with that left leg. and when we do that we're going to push that left hand straight up. Always remember to focus on your form. Your weight should be on your heel on your front foot. Never let that knee go past your toes. So you're working your shoulders, your abs and your legs again."
Courtney: "I'm going to do these at work now. In between commercials."
Jeff: "And switch."
