Officer frees owl from screened-in porch

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) -- An officer was able to free an owl that had ended up stuck inside a screened-in porch.

A woman called the Chippewa Falls Police Department Tuesday morning, saying the bird had become stuck. She said she didn't know who to call, so she started with police. Officers responded to the home on Macomber Street, and found that the owl had gone through a thin screen. It was flying around, but could not escape. Sgt. Dave BeBeau says when officers opened a door to the porch, the bird didn't seem like it could find the door. He says he tried to coax it toward the door, and the bird let him pick it up. BeBeau carried the bird outside, and released it, as shown in a video posted to the Chippewa Falls Police Department's Facebook page.

He calls it "kind of a unique experience," and says he's just glad the owl wasn't hurt.
