MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A southeastern Wisconsin historical site is set to celebrate its spring opening with a kite-flying weekend.

Old World Wisconsin is set to open to the general public on May 3. The site plans to kick off its "Spring Into the Past" weekend series that day by helping visitors build 19th-century paper kits and letting them fly. Kite-flying will continue on May 4.

The next weekend features sheep-shearing demonstrations and hands-on wool spinning. The following weekend visitors can help plant heirloom gardens and the next they they'll get a chance to sample early German, Irish, Norwegian, Finnish and Polish immigrants' favorite seasonal foods.

Old World Wisconsin features dozens of historic buildings relocated from around the state. The site is located just outside Eagle in southeastern Wisconsin.
