DEVELOPING STORY: Man accused of killing neighbor bound over for trial

(WEAU) - An Eau Claire man accused of killing his neighbor is set to go to trial.

James Olson, 52, appeared in court Tuesday for his preliminary hearing. After hearing testimony from an Eau Claire police detective, the judge bound Olson over for trial.

At a hearing Monday, a judge ruled he was competent to stand trial.

Olson is charged with first degree intentional homicide in the death of Paul Oberle last June. Oberle was found dead in his back yard on Vine Street in Eau Claire. Investigators say Olson confronted Oberle and attacked him with a crow bar.

(WEAU) - The case against a man accused of killing his neighbor in Eau Claire will proceed.

A judge ruled that James Olson is competent to stand trial. Olson is charged with first degree murder in the death of Paul Oberle last June.

Last summer a judge had ruled that Olson couldn't understand his case enough to help his lawyer defend him. Prosecutor Gary King says Olson has been getting treatment and medication through the department of health services.

He's scheduled to go back before the judge again Tuesday.
