EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- With the 2014 winter games in Sochi, Russia drawing near, one of several Wisconsinites who will compete is tuning up.
Curler Debbie McCormick is in Eau Claire this weekend to compete in the Leinenkugel's Open Bonspiel. It's a three-day tournament. The Sochi games will be McCormick's fourth Olympics. Having grown up near Madison, she says it's a thrill to represent Wisconsin and wear her country's colors on a world stage.
"I feel such great support being from Wisconsin, and Curling Wisconsin," she said. "The curling community it totally behind us, and we feel like all of American is behind us. And it's such an honor to wear United States on your back and curl for your country. The Olympics are obviously the top that we can get to as curlers, and the support that we have received is tremendous and my family is going over, just to be part of Wisconsin, living in Wisconsin and being part of the Olympics, it's just unbelievable."
McCormick leaves for the Olympics later this month. The Opening Ceremony is February 7, with competition starting February 6.
