ONALASKA, Wis. (ONALASKA POLICE DEPARTMENT NEWS RELEASE) -- On October 15th Officers Jim Page and Rich Elias of the Onalaska Police Department will be at the Onalaska Library presenting “Drugs in Our Community”. This presentation is far from a canned “Drugs are a Problem” lecture. Drugs in Our Community deals with just that, drugs that are prevalent in the Coulee Region. Officers Page and Elias are both qualified Drug Recognition Experts with the Onalaska Police Department. Becoming a qualified DRE Officer is no small task, requiring extensive training both in the classroom and in the field and this training makes Page and Elias uniquely qualified to address the drug abuse issue.
“This presentation is tailored to the Coulee Region,” said Officer Jim Page, “Officer Elias and I will be speaking about what we see every day. We will address what to look for and how various drugs influence behavior. We also allot time for questions, we want to take the mystery out of drugs and give parents and educators in particular more tools to help them deal with the drug problem in our community.”
Mr. Ward Keil of the Friends of the Library organization heard about the lecture and immediately thought of having the library act as host.
“The entire concept of a library is to spread and share knowledge,” said Ward Keil of the Friends of the Library, “so this presentation seemed a natural fit. I can’t imagine any parent, teacher or social worker who wouldn’t want to have access to the information in this presentation. We have reserved both rooms at the library so we have space for 200 and we are hoping for a full house.”
The presentation will be held on the 15th of October from 7-9pm at the Onalaska Library. Citizens are encouraged to bring questions.
