One hurt after plane crash at Wausau Airport

WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) -- A plane crash near the Wausau Downtown Airport has sent the pilot to the hospital.

Downtown Airport Manager John Chmiel says the plane crashed outside the fenced-in area near the airport just before 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The pilot was approaching the airport from the south. Chmiel says weather may have been a factor in the crash but it is still too early to tell.

The pilot was the only person on board. He was taken to Aspirus Hospital with unknown injuries.

The Federal Aviation Administration is expected on the scene to investigate.

Emergency workers removed part of the fence to get to the plane.


Wausau, WI (WSAW)-One person has been taken to the hospital following a plane crash around 9:30 am Wednesday morning at the Wausau Downtown Airport.

Investigators on scene say it was a small six-person plane.

According to dispatch reports, the pilot clipped tree near the airport. The pilot was found outside the aircraft when emergency responders arrived. He was alert and conscious, but his condition is unknown.

The FFA will begin their investigation Wednesday at 2 pm.
