TOWN OF CAMPBELL, Wis. (WEAU) -- One person has died after a 6-vehicle crash on I-90 near La Crosse.

The Town of Campbell Fire Department responded to the scene at mile marker 2 just before 8 a.m. Thursday morning.

When crews arrived a fully-engulfed dump truck was on top of a Ford mustang. An SUV, a car, a commercial van, and a semi-truck were also involved in collisions.

The Wisconsin State Patrol says traffic was merging onto I-90 in a construction zone, and the dump truck could not slow down in time, rear-ending the Mustang causing a chain reaction.

Two victims were entrapped in separate vehicles.
The driver of the Mustang was fatally injured.
One female patient was taken to the hospital was life-threatening injuries. One male was hospitalized with non-life threatening injures.

The crash is under investigation.
