One person is dead and three injured after a crash Wednesday night near Nelson in Buffalo County.
The Wisconsin State Patrol says it happened around 5 p.m. on Highway 25, close to County Highway K. Troopers say Barbara Whelan, 50, of Mondovi was driving a van southbound on State Highway 25. She approached a vehicle that was parked on the west shoulder of the highway due to an unrelated crash that had happened earlier. As Whelan tried to go around the scene, she lost control and crashed with a car that was driving northbound. That car was driven by Jamie Steele, 36, of Durand.
Steele was extricated from his car and taken to a Wabasha hospital where he was pronounced dead. Whelan was also extricated and taken to a Durand Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Two other passengers from Whelan’s vehicle were also taken to a Durand hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
