Open House gives guests an inside look at food bank operations

By  |

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) People in the area got a chance to take a tour of one of the area's largest food banks Thursday afternoon.

Right now, the Feed My People Food Bank is having an open house, ending at 6:30 pm.

The non profit began back in 1982 when six Eau claire churches joined together their hunger-relief programs.

Today, the food bank is a separate organization that supports thousands of people every year.

Organizers say it's a great way to get an inside look at what they do.

"Every spring we have an open house where we invite members of the community, to see who we are, to see what we do, learn all about all of the areas we service in not only our county but 19 counties," says Courtenay Johnson, of Feed My People.

In 2013 alone, Feed My People Food Bank distributed more than 6 and a half million pounds of food.
