EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - Hundreds of people ran around Carson Park Tuesday to help put a smile on the face of families in Wisconsin.
The Oral Surgery Associates Run/Walk for a Mission 5k run/walk took place at Carson Park in Eau Claire. The goal for this event is to raise money for families who can’t afford dental care through the Mission of Mercy program. About three hundred runners signed up for the event.
A surgeon with the group says the run is meant to bring attention to an issue that not many people think about.
Oral surgeon Dr. Slavko Ivankovic told us "it's just our way of trying to bring awareness to this issue that there are plenty of people in this state that need access to care and it's the WDA (Wisconsin Dental Association) and WDA foundation's way of trying to tackle this problem."
Ivankovic says Mission of Mercy has helped 12,000 people since it started about five years ago.
