NEW INFORMATION: Power restored to customers affected by outage in Eau Claire area

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - Customers affected by a snow-related power outage Friday have had their power restored.

Xcel Energy says it restored power to nearly 2,200 customers by 10:45 a.m. Friday.

A spokesman says heavy, wet snow caused the outage. It left trees on one of the power lines in multiple places, which is why customers reported "flickering lights" to the company. Crews cut off power to the line, made the repairs, and turned it back on.
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – A power company says a power outage on the north side of Eau Claire has affected 2,100 customers.

Xcel Energy says it will provide more information later.

The City of Eau Claire posted a message about the outage on its Facebook page, saying that an area east of Hastings Way, west of the 53 Bypass, north of Birch Street, and South of Eddy Lane seems to be where most of the affected customers are. It includes the city’s sewage pump station at Black Avenue. The city is supplying it with emergency power through a generator.

The city says a traffic signal at Birch/Galloway/River Prairie Drive is out, and so are signals on the North Crossing/State Highway 312.

There’s no word on when the power will be restored.
