Person hit while checking on car after sliding off Highway 53

(WEAU) – Monday's snow storm caused some slide-ins and crashes according to officers but one person was also hit by a car after a small crash.

Altoona Police say shortly before one, a driver slid off Highway 53 at Clairemont Ave. and hit the guard rail. When the person got out to look at the damage, he was hit by another car. Police say he was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

That shut the northbound lane of 53 down for a half hour.
