Person of interest in fires arrested

HAYWARD, Wis. (WEAU) – Investigators have arrested a person of interest in connection with a half-dozen fires that are believed to be “criminal in nature.”

Officers, deputies, and fire crews all responded to an area behind the Trading Post on County Road K in the Town of Bass Lake on Saturday night. Crews found and put out two fires. The fires damaged the east side of the Trading Post and a storage structure with a van inside.

About 20 minutes later, crews responded to another fire at the Ceremonial Lodge log cabin on Trepania Road near the Lac Courte Oreilles Head Start building. The building was fully engulfed in flames when crews got there, and was a total loss.

On Sunday, four other fires were reported to investigators, including two sweat lodges. At least one had burned down.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal was contacted, and both state and local agencies are investigating.

A news release from the LCO Police Department does not identify the person of interest in the case.
