NEW INFORMATION: Name released of woman hurt in Barron County crash

BARRON COUNTY, Wis. (RELEASE FROM BARRON CO. SHERIFF'S DEPT.)--On Thursday, April 25th at 1:20 p.m., the Barron County Sheriff’s Department received a call of a car accident on Hwy 8 near Hwy M in the Town of Sumner.

Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department, the Cameron Police Department, Cameron First Responders, Lakeview Medical Center Ambulance and the WI State Patrol were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, it was discovered that a piece of metal came off a semi that was traveling west on Hwy 8 and went through the windshield of a vehicle striking the driver, Julie R Schmitz, 53, of Bruce causing her to go off the road into a marshy area.

Schmitz was transported to LMC and was in serious condition with head injuries. The piece of metal appears to be a skid plate of some sort off a semi and the Barron County Sheriff’s Department is working on a lead at this time to locate the semi.

(WEAU) - A crash right out of a horror movie sends one woman to the hospital seriously hurt.

The Barron County Sheriff's Department says a woman was driving on Highway 8 when a piece of metal came of a semi-trailer and went through her windshield.

It says it caused her to go off the road into a marshy area. She was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
