NEW INFORMATION: Crash involving semi leaves traffic backed up on State Hwy. 37

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Officers believe they will end up ticketing someone in a crash that tied up traffic Wednesday afternoon in Eau Claire, but they need to investigate further.

The crash happened before 1 p.m. Wednesday on State Highway 37 at the Interstate 94 interchange. A spokesman from the Eau Claire Police Department says a semi heading south on highway 37 collided with a vehicle that was coming off an exit ramp to go south on 37. It happened in a construction zone. He says officers received conflicting information on exactly why it happened from the drivers involved. He also believes someone will likely be responsible for the cost to clean up fuel that spilled at the scene.

Nobody was hurt in the crash. Police urged drivers to avoid the area when traffic became heavily backed up.
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- At about 2 p.m. Wednesday, Eau Claire police tweeted that traffic was flowing again near the scene of the crash, though police and fire crews remained at the scene. Officers urged drivers to drive slowly and pay attention.
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Eau Claire police posted a message on their Twitter page after 1:30 p.m. saying the crash was between a semi that was headed south on State Highway 37 and a vehicle turning south from the Interstate 94 ramp. There were no injuries.

Traffic appears to be clearing from the area, but police are still calling it an issue.

Eau Claire police have responded to Hendrickson Drive (State Highway 37) and Interstate 94. A tweet from the department that was posted just before 1 p.m. Wednesday asks that drivers avoid the area. Another message says the traffic is heavily backed up because of a crash there involving a semi.
