NEWS RELEASE FROM THE CITY OF OWEN:

The City of Owen accepted the resignation of Owen Police Chief Randy Poirier on Thursday, November 1, 2012. Chief Poirier accepted and signed the resignation documents on November 6, 2012.

The City of Owen, in conjunction with outside investigators, conducted a thorough investigation of alleged off-duty misconduct said to have occurred in early September 2012. That investigation did not produce any significant evidence of misconduct related to Chief Poirier’s employment with the City of Owen, and Chief Poirier cooperated fully throughout the investigation. Following the completion of the investigation, Chief Poirier agreed his resignation was in the best interest of himself, his family, and the entire Owen community.

The City of Owen, along with the Owen Police Department, are in the process of reviewing applicable policies and procedures to ensure the expectations of Owen police officers while off-duty are appropriate and clearly defined.
