NEW INFORMATION: Joint training exercise held at Altoona school

ALTOONA, Wis. (WEAU) -- Police, EMS, and fire teams in Altoona got together Tuesday night for a joint training exercise.

You may have seen them at Pedersen Elementary School on Bartlett Avenue. They were simulating an active shooter situation. They started at 6 p.m., and wrapped up around 9 p.m.

Altoona Police Chief Jesse James said, with the increased numbers of incidents recently across the country, Altoona wants to be ready to appropriately respond to a possible major crisis.
ALTOONA, Wis. (WEAU) -- Police, fire, and rescue crews have a training exercise planned at an elementary school Tuesday evening.

The training is between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Tuesday at Pedersen Elementary School on Bartlett Avenue in Altoona. Crews say they will work on coordinating their efforts to respond to a "critical incident call."

Officers say a large number of police, fire, and EMS workers will be seen near the school during the training.
