MENOMONIE, Wis. (WEAU)-- A woman found dead inside her home in Menomonie was a UW-Stout student.

Menomonie police say 23-year-old Jesse Jensen, of Owen, was found inside her house on 6th Street around 5:30 Wednesday morning. Officers say her roommate, police and EMS all tried reviving her but were unsuccessful.

UW-Stout says Jensen was a senior majoring in Industrial Design with a minor in Business Administration. Chancellor Charles Sorensen issued a statement saying "Our hearts and prayers go out to Jesse's family and friends, and we offer our condolences to them on the loss of this very promising young woman."

Jensen's death is under investigation. Autopsy and toxicology results are pending.

“We're devastated for her family and friends and for her loss,” UW Stout Dean of Students Joan Thomas said.

Police say there were no visible wounds or signs of any kind of attack. Her cause of death is unknown and police say they're waiting for autopsy results to know if anything suspicious happened.

“While we wait for the toxicology and the autopsy, our investigators will talk to her friends, coworkers, try to find out what was going on in the previous day that lead up to the time that she had passed away to get a picture of what was happening in her life,” Menomonie Police Chief Eric Atkinson said.

Jesse Jensen, who is from Owen, was a senior industrial design student at Stout.

Staff members there called her a talented student.

“She was really hard working. She was very sweet, friendly, she created a positive energy in the classroom,” Jensen’s instructor, UW Stout associate professor Jennifer Astwood said.

“I met with some of the students and they're very shocked and saddened by the experience, so that's helped talking and sharing about her.”

Staff said they hope to find a way to honor Jensen with students.

“We're going to try and figure out some forum to get them together. In a room together to know that this happened, to grieve in whatever way,” School of Art and Design Director Tamara Brantmeier said.

Chancellor Charles W. Sorensen has issued a statement concerning the death of University of Wisconsin-Stout student Jesse Jensen.
