NEW INFORMATION: Police name suspect in Walmart thefts

(WEAU) - We have new information on the search for a man suspected of stealing from two different Walmart stores.

Rice Lake Police say they are looking for Gene Ramsey, 46. Officers say Ramsey is believed to be the man who stole from 2 different cash registers at each the Rice Lake and Ladysmith Walmart. Police say there were similar thefts committed at Walmart stores in Beloit and Ottawa, Wisconsin.

It says Ramsey is still on the loose and may be headed back to San Antonio, which is his last known address.


(WEAU) – Police in Ladysmith say the man who is suspected of stealing money from two registers at the Rice Lake Walmart also stole an undisclosed amount of money from two registers at the Walmart in Ladysmith.

It says the man broke into a register in the lawn and garden department as well as in the photo department at the store. It says the man was walking through the parking lot when he noticed officers and took off on foot. It says he ran into nearby woods. Officers saw him leave the woods a short time later, get into a car and drive off.

The man is still on the loose.


(WEAU) – Police are looking for a man who stole money from a Walmart in Rice Lake and got away from officers at a Walmart in Ladysmith.

The Rice Lake Police Department says around 7:15 Thursday night, a man who was wearing a red and gray scarf over his face broke into two different cash registers at the Walmart in Rice Lake. It says he stole an undisclosed amount of money.

The Ladysmith Police say they were then contacted by a worker at the Walmart in Ladysmith, saying a man who matched the description from the robbery in Rice Lake was in their store. Police responded and saw the man leaving the store, but he fled on foot and officers were unable to catch him.

The man is still on the loose.

Police say the man was wearing a black leather jacket, a camouflage baseball cap, blue jeans and the red and white scarf. It says he was driving a tan 2006 Ford Focus with Vermont plates reading FSY-484.
