Police officer accused of sexual assault retires

(WEAU) - A Stanley police officer accused of sexual assault has retired.

Officer Terry Karlen submitted a letter on March 4th saying he began his retirement on March 1st.

According to the criminal complaint, Karlen, 59, was off-duty when a 30-year-old woman asked him for a ride home because she was too drunk to drive. She says Officer Karlen agreed to drive her home, but then took her to a cemetery where he sexually assaulted her.

He's charged with 4th degree sexual assault.
