(WEAU) - Eau Claire Police say even though there have been several profile robberies over the past few months, the actual number of robberies has not gone up.

Police Spokesman Kyle Roder says Eau Claire has seen six robberies in the first five and a half months of the year. That’s actually down from 9 robberies in the same period in 2011, and 12 robberies in 2010.

“I don't think quantitatively we've seen more robberies in the city of Eau Claire this year or in the past few weeks, however...they have been more notable because of the locations," said Roder.

He says stores need to create their own policies to help employees deal with a robbery and that the proper policy can make employees more helpful for police, who can in turn catch criminals faster.
