MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A new poll finds that the race between Republican Gov. Scott Walker and Democratic challenger Mary Burke is a statistical dead heat.

The Marquette University law school released its poll Wednesday. It says 46 percent of registered voters would vote for Walker and an equal percent support Burke. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

Among likely voters, Walker leads 48 percent to 45 percent, which is still within the margin of error.

The poll of 805 registered voters was conducted between May 15 and Sunday. It's the second poll since the two campaigns started advertising in the governor's race.

Walker is running for re-election in November. Burke is a former executive with Trek Bicycle Corp.

Those figures are about in line with Walker's recent numbers. His approval rating was 47 percent in late March.

The poll also asks how voters see Walker as a person. It says 47 percent see him favorably and 48 unfavorably, about the same as in March.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A new poll says Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke still has a ways to go in introducing herself to voters.

A Marquette University law school poll released Wednesday shows 27 percent of registered voters have a favorable opinion of her, and 22 percent have an unfavorable opinion. But a full 46 percent say they haven't heard enough about her to decide, and the other 5 percent say they don't know.

Burke is a former executive with Trek Bicycle Corp., and also a former state Commerce secretary. She's challenging Republican Gov. Scott Walker in November's race.

The poll of 805 registered voters was conducted between May 15 and Sunday. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- President Barack Obama's approval rating has held about steady in Wisconsin, with 48 percent of registered voters saying they approve of the job he's doing.

A Marquette University law school poll released Wednesday says 45 percent disapprove of his performance, and 6 percent don't know.

A similar Marquette poll two months ago found that 47 percent approved of the president and 49 percent disapproved

Pollster Charles Franklin says Obama's approval rating has improved as fewer people express dissatisfaction with the new health care law.

The poll of 805 registered voters was conducted from May 18 through Sunday. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
