Power grids across India fail, millions without power

NEW DELHI (AP) -- Officials in northeastern India say that the power grid in that region has collapsed, the third one to fail in a massive, cascading blackout.

The failures across the three power grids Tuesday afternoon left more than half the country without electricity. MSNBC reports that hundreds of millions of people are without electricity.

Earlier Tuesday, the northern and eastern grids collapsed.
