MADISON, Wis. (WEAU) -- The State of Wisconsin has fined a frac sand company with a mine in Blair $200,000.
On Monday, the Department of Justice announced that a Trempealeau County Judge recently ordered Preferred Sands of Wisconsin to pay $200,000 for storm water violations at the Blair property. A complaint shows that the company didn't let the Department of Natural Resources know when it expanded production, and didn't do enough to keep storm water from becoming contaminated when it met up with parts of the site. It goes on to say that someone saw polluted sediment runoff leaving the site in several places later in 2011 and early in 2012.
Preferred Sands took over the site in 2011.
