Preparing for redevelopment in La Crosse

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) -- An area city is getting ready for redevelopment of 65 acres of riverfront.

The Riverside North Redevelopment is north of downtown La Crosse.

The city’s Redevelopment Authority said about half of the site will be used as parkland for people to enjoy.

The city is looking for public feedback about what to do with the rest of the area.

City leaders said it’s about planning for the future.

“We’re just here for our lifetime, but there are generations to come we’re trying to preserve an opportunity for them as well,” said Larry Kirch, Redevelopment Authority of the City of La Crosse executive director.

A meeting focusing on the environmental aspects of the site will be held Thursday night at 7:00 at Western Technical College’s Kumm Center.

The first planning meeting will be held May 14.
