EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- An area credit union is sending letters to customers who may be affected by the recent Target data breach.
Royal Credit Union says it has found 1,219 credit cards and 5,239 debit cards in the area that may have been compromised. RCU says it may have more debit cards, but it may not find out until Tuesday. The letter tells customers that they will receive a new card in the mail. It's a way of reducing the risk of fraud. The letter goes on to suggest that customers carefully monitor their card transactions. Target said earlier that data connected to about 40 million credit and debit card accounts was stolen as part of a breach that started during the Thanksgiving weekend.
