EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- A staple supplier of do-it-yourself audio-video engineers, video game enthusiasts, and ham radio operators is struggling to stay in business.

On Tuesday, RadioShack announced plans to close up to 1,100 stores in the United States. It reported a disappointing quarterly loss after the holiday season. Its stock reflected that by taking a 24 percent tumble when trading opened this morning. The mass closures won't take Radio Shack off the map entirely. The company will still have more than 4,000 stores across the country.

RadioShack stores at Oakwood Mall and Shopko Plaza both say they have not been told their stores will close.
