EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) U.S. Representative Ron Kind was back in the area Monday to give some money back to the taxpayers.
Each year, Representative Kind has donated a portion of his congressional budget to the U.S. Treasury to help lower the country's deficit.
This year, his office gave back more than $56,000.
He says the country needs to overhaul its spending policies and pay down the debt so our children and grandchildren aren't getting stuck with the unpaid bills.
"We've been doing it every year since I took office, I think fiscal responsibility starts at home. I work very hard to be a good steward of the tax dollar, that's what we have direct control over and for me that's my office budget so every year I work with my staff to find additional savings that we can return to the Treasury that can only be used for debt reduction .Its a small part of the overall federal budget, but we do need to lead by example too," says Kind.
Since taking office, Kind has given back a total of $1.5 million.
