MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A new report says Wisconsin ranks among the top 10 states in volunteer rates.
The Corporation for National & Community Service, a federal agency that promotes public service, reviewed states' volunteer rates between 2010 and 2012. It found 35.6% of Wisconsin residents did volunteer work over that span, ranking them eighth among all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Utah was first at 43.8% and Minnesota second at 37.7%.
The study also reviewed volunteer rates in large cities. Milwaukee ranked third in the country with 33.6 percent of residents participating in some volunteer work. Minneapolis-St. Paul was first at 36.7 percent. Rochester, N.Y., was second at 35.1 percent.
